April showers bring May babies!

If you are wondering why I haven't written in awhile, well, so am I. Our computer at home is down so I am sitting here writing this post at the base library. Fortunately, Peter is very skilled with the computer (he built ours himself), but this one has stumped him. To make a long story short, he is ordering some parts which will hopefully fix the problem (whatever it is) and get us back to "normal" again. You know, I never realized just how much we rely on computers until they break. Now I find myself making a list of all the things I need to do once the comouter is up and running again.
On a brighter note, this past weekend my sister and Peter's sister held a baby shower for me and Baby Norris. Since they both live in North Carolina and all of the guests live near me, they decided to just come to my house for the weekend and have it there. It was so great getting to see and visit some of my out-of-town friends and family and to share this exciting event with all of them (I will be sure to post some pictures when I am able to access them).
We have just two weeks to go until the due date now (May 10) so it is definitely "crunch time." We had a doctor's appointment on Monday and she asked if I thought the baby was going to come early. I said no because I have felt NO signs of labor and I just have a feeling that the baby will be late (although at the appointment on Monday she said that the baby has dropped a LITTLE and that I am effaced a LITTLE). She said she was surprised to hear me say that because most first-time moms think their babies will come "any minute now" during those last few weeks. She also said that I was probably being pretty realistic and that this baby will either be on time or late. I have to say, I am just fine with that. Not that we aren't excited to meet this little person that has been growing inside me for the past nine months (and especially to find out if it is a boy or a girl), but now that it is truly down to the wire, I am getting a little nervous about the whole experience. Since I am one of the last ones in the Great Baby Boom of 2006, I have been able to hear all about the labor tales of my friends but since each one was different, I now have no idea what to expect for myself. Oh well, I guess that is part of the fun!

Don't Mess with Texas!

As most of you already know, we are headed to Killeen, Texas this summer. We are so excited to get closer to some of our family and friends for the next few years. For those of you that aren't Texans, you might not understand how hard it is to not be able to live in your home state. I have often heard the saying, "Texas, it's like a whole other country." I truly believe that because Texas doesn't really fit into any of the U.S. regions; New England, East Coast, South, Midwest, or West Coast. Texans are VERY proud of their home state and for good reason.

But as much as I miss Texas, I miss my hometown of College Station (Heidi, I know you can relate) even more. Peter and I always talk about the first thing we want to do when we get there but we can never decide because there is just too much to do. True, most of the places we want to go are eateries such as Layne's Chicken Fingers and Freebirds but just walking around the beautiful A&M campus will satisfy us for awhile. One thing I can't wait to do is go to a home football game. We haven't been able to attend one since we both graduated 5 years ago and since we were both in the Corps of Cadets and the Aggie Band, home games are somewhat sacred to us.

(top, a typical Texas A&M home game; bottom, Peter is 2nd from the right in the front row and I am 4th from the right in the second row)

Even though we will be living in Killeen; it is only two hours away and with Grammy (my mom) in C.S., I'm sure we will be making MANY trips there. Of course, any and all of you are welcome to come visit and learn why we enjoy Texas as much as we do.

With a Cherry On Top

http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cms/index.php?id=390

On Saturday, Peter and I went with some friends to the Tidal Basin in D.C. to see the beautiful cherry blossom trees in bloom. There are about two weeks every year (depending on the weather) that the trees stay in full bloom. We were able to hit it just right, along with EVERYONE else in the surrounding area. Even though it was crowded, it was impossible not to enjoy what a gift nature gives us each year. Since we are only in the area for ten months, we have tried to take advantage of every weekend we could spare to sightsee and take in everything the D.C. area has to offer. We have both visited the nation's capital a few times before, but living here is totally different. You don't have to rush at any of the museums or cram anything in because you can always come back. We will be leaving soon and I will definitely miss that but we will try to take advantage of every place the Army sends us!!
